Upcoming free opportunities to suit your ski bum budget:

Friday, February 27--

Check out the Scrabble Tournament at Hard Drive Café. Got a knack for spelling bees? Enter the competition for $35 for your chance to win not just Jackson Hole Nerd Glory but also a scholarship for the 17th annual Jackson Hole Writers Conference this June 25-28. Slightly dyslexic/not into gambling your English language skills? Never fear, free snacks will be provided throughout the three 30-minute rounds. Drinks will be available (2for1 happy hour!) for purchase, so feel free to get sloshed while you unleash your inner Spartan Cheerleader to motivate the dictionary connoisseurs.

Need some more drama after watching board games for two hours? There are free improvisational performances at the Center for the Arts in the Black Box Theater, one at 8, one at 9:30.

Saturday, February 28--

Transcend before you hit the slopes at the free Introduction to Transcendental Meditation, 10 a.m. at Transcendental Meditation Center of Jackson Hole. I don't really know what all goes on here, so call them at 413-8955 to learn more.

Who loves traveling and saving the world? We do! Sustainable Travel Trends presentations and discussion at the Bentwood Inn. There will be heavy Hors d’oeuvres at 5 p.m. and talks at 6 p.m., so it's safe to say you can peace out before the presentation if you're a homebody and prefer to pollute. JK.

Sunday, March 1--

Ummm.... SAT practice test at the Library? Free! Lame. Yechhh.

Free wings at the Q! Seriously, no gimmick. This actually happens every Saturday and Sunday from 5-6. AND it is happy hour. Glorious.

Learn more about an elusive chunk of rock named Mars at the Center for the Arts from 5:30 to 8:00pm. No word yet on if food or booze will be there, but it may be interesting.

Thanks for checking in, and have a great recession-proof weekend!

Chamber Mixer, February 27th

Last night, another great chamber of commerce party at Rocky Mountain Hardware. Seriously, the chamber gatherings each week are pretty golden. I think that will be our weekly gathering to discuss all things free and fabulous in Jackson. If you would like to be part of this endeavor, meet us for the booze and food at each chamber meeting location on Thursdays.

Let's talk about last night: We turn the corner upon walking in to find Deluxe Mixed Nuts. Good sign, we've been impressed by less. Then I hear from the words that solidify this place as a jackpot: "full bar". Well, at least a decent selection of beers and wines. It's only until I see the caterers from Chippy's walking around with plates of mini crab cakes, duck confit, and chicken skewers that I've decided this is an event to put in the memory books. It rivaled the first chamber gathering we attended at the White Buffalo Club. After a few glasses of wine and wine glasses full of Guinness, we decided we'd overstayed our welcome, and took a few complementary goat cheese crackers and bottles of water and headed to our favorite poachable hot tub. Successful evening.

Anyone in the market for new door knobs?

Chamber Mixer tonight at Rock Mountain Hardware from 5:30-7:30.

You thought the Caddy was a good deal for happy hour. Well, how about a free happy hour, or two? These chamber mixers are hit or miss. However, I would assume by the quality of the host (RMH) we should expect quality cocktails (I'm hoping for g&t's) or at least some vino and cheese. So come sip on a cocktail with me and shop for a new door pull or towel rack.

I Am Deciding To Share Something Special With You

Jackson Hole is host to a plethora of free social events, offering everything from free wine and cheese to heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. You just have to know where to look. If free booze, food, and socializing is of any interest to you, then my friend,  you have come to the right place.

This blog is dedicated to promoting everything cool and free in JH, according to me.  I do my research and have a long history of pretty good finds. Anyone make it to the Body and Soul open house last fall? I got loaded, gorged, and massaged. I even ended up with a free ride on the Cell-U-Bike the following day (google it). Of course, some of the best free events are not publicized, but rather word-of-mouth invites.  I pledge to share with you all that is cool and free in Jackson Hole.
